Best choice for a Kitchen Blind
So you’ve made the great decision to install blinds in your kitchen – Congratulations! Surely you won’t regret the combination of practicality and style, but what’s the best choice for a kitchen blind?
Unfortunately, there is not one true best choice for a kitchen blind, but in reality there could be a few considerations first.
Do you want to avoid kitchen smells?
If you do a lot of pungent cooking with strong spices, you’ll already be aware sometimes smells can linger in kitchens.
Roller blinds can be advantageous in this instance, as a quick retraction will keep the blinds withdrawn and thus avoid any kitchen smells lingering on them.
Although Roman/Fabric style blinds can look great, although the soft fabric is not ideal to resist kitchen smells, so roller blinds are far more practical in this instance.
Is privacy important to you?
Whilst most people would prefer kitchens to allow lots of natural light and appear bright and airy, in some cases you may prefer privacy. For example, in apartment blocks sometimes neighbour’s windows can be in close proximity, so perhaps you’d prefer to cover the window to some degree.
In this instance, slatted blinds are a great option as they can be easily tilted to minimise visibility through the window space. Even better, solid slats such as faux wood rather than fabric reduce visibility further.
Of course, authentic timber slats can be used – but they can be prone to warping in sunlight and heat, so faux wood (or wood effect) are preferable.
Do you have doors you’d like to cover?
Vertical blinds are a terrific option for doors, especially sheer type. This is because you’re unlikely to be retracting or adjusting the blinds much, rather you’d probably just pull them into place and leave them.
Don’t be concerned with coordination if your kitchen has roller blinds on the windows, as most manufacturers of blinds provider complementing ranges in vertical and roller blinds so you can fit the same style and colour in each. Vertical blinds on patio or kitchen doors can then be easily matched to the same pattern, style and colour of roller blinds on the windows.
Don’t forget to think about water!
Often we need to cover windows behind sinks, and in this instance, it pays to fit water-resistant blinds. Even the most careful cooks (and washer-uppers) can’t stop water splashes, and it can be a troublesome job taking down, drying and cleaning blinds. Far better to have the reassurance that any stray water splashes can safely come into contact with water-resistant blinds and cause no damage or work for you.
Conclusion : the best choice for kitchen blinds is……?
Roller blinds on windows and vertical blinds for doors will provide great solutions in most kitchens. Available in many different colours, patterns and styles (even water-resistant for sink splashes!) roller blinds for windows, slatted blinds for increased privacy, and vertical blinds for doors will always be the best choice for a kitchen blind.
