New Year, New Design Trend Speculations 2018
With 2018 under way, now is the perfect time to speculate about design trends for the coming year. Trends are unique in that they are quite hard to predict. Some are called well in advance while others are unexpected, offering a pleasant surprise and highlighting the unpredictability of interior design.
Predicting interior design trends is always worthwhile, as it gives us an indication of what might be the next big hit. After all, people want their design to have a lasting effect, which is achieved when you opt for something that is on-trend.
Let’s try to speculate on the coming design trends for 2018:
A colourful future
Neutral colours have long been on trend, but 2018 may be the year where vibrancy makes a comeback. Gone is the subtly of neutrals, set to be replaced by bold bright colours that leave rooms popping with life
Think bright, bold and strong when it comes to main colour trends of 2018.
Black makes a comeback
While neutral colours may take a backseat for 2018, there is one colour in particular that will continue to lead the way for the palette – black. Charcoals and warm neutrals will remain at the forefront of this, with tones of blacks used to make daring statements.
Black comes in may tones, making it easy to pair with a variety of other colours and patterns, from monochrome to metallic. Combing these offers great intensity to colour schemes, and will likely be a popular alternative to bright and bold designs.
Brass to be the must-have metal
A rather divisive material, not everyone appreciates the richness of brass. However, it looks set to be a big hit in 2018, becoming a mainstay in bathrooms and kitchens. It offers a timeless finish that many are falling back in love with, making a great finish for many different furnishings.
Making a statement with storage
Predicted to be a growing trend in 2018, statement storage is all about combining style and function rather than sacrificing one for the other. Expect creative and stylish forms of storage to be utilized throughout the year, from heavy kitchen cabinets to bold buffets.
Not only does it make storage much more organised, but all the more stylish!
A natural accent
The natural look will remain a firm favourite in the new year, with accent pieces playing a big role. This isn’t reserved for stone, with wooden decorative objects helping to really create that soothing natural aesthetic.
Consider woods, stones, and other natural materials when picking up furnishings to use as accent pieces. Better still, go outside and forage natural décor for free!
