How to Plan & Design a Room in Your Home
It has never been easier to plan and design a room in your home. From design magazines to handy websites, there are so many amazing resources available to make easy to plan your next home décor project.
Taking advantage of all these tools makes it so much easier to plan and eventually decorate a room, saving you a lot of time, hassle, and possibly money. Perhaps the best step to take is the initial planning stage, which makes everything else fall into place nicely.
Here are some things to consider when planning to design a room in your home:
Jot downs some initial ideas
Before you do anything, grab some paper and begin to jot down any design ideas you have in mind. You can use various resources for inspiration (there is an endless selection of interior design websites out there!) or simply use whatever ideas are in your head.
Feel free to add some pictures from magazines or websites, thinking about colour schemes, patterns, fabrics, textures, and even furniture. Getting all your ideas on paper helps to determine common design trends, making your preferred styles clearer.
Consider the room’s purpose
Make sure you think about the purpose of the room when coming up with design ideas. For instance, if you are decorating your child’s room, you won’t be adding the same décor as you would with your own space.
Also think about how often it will be used. Is it a spare room that is being converted into a guest room? If so, you won’t need to pour as much effort as you would for a plan for a kitchen, bathroom or living room.
List the things you need to add
After doing some research, you should have a better idea of the type design you want to create. This means you can now look for furniture, blinds, paint, and other things to help create this style. Consider your current furniture and décor as well, which should make it easier to work out what you need to add.
Check out your notes and see what décor you have included most -these should become a priority for your new room design. Also, think about out possible it is to add these to your current space, saving the hassle of buying something that won’t fit or work within the room.
Establish a budget
Decorating is great fun, making it easy to overspend! It is never worth spending more than you can afford, no matter how much you love the design, so be sure to establish a budget before buying anything.
Always do this before you begin decorating, as it ensures you are always working within the budget, giving a clear idea of how much money you can work with. If you are struggling to find a design within your budget, it may a good idea to create a new plan from scratch, considering what things are driving your budget up.
